Scarlet Ribbon

On a shimmering scarlet ribbon I ride. Over mountain peaks and across pastures green. I journey on and on. With your love and guidance I am carried into the world. To newer towns and ancient cities. Hopes, dreams, and promises. Your ermine and your pearls.

With my pen I paint a picture of you who were born with nothing yet who walked in robes of gold. Dawn’s light reveals a valley. Rugged and deep, with secrets still untold. In the distance stands a giant wheel. A drawbridge slowly rises. From the tower sound three bells. But for whom do they toll?

Each spring we watch leaves turn green, only to wither in the fall. In days coruscating in sunlight we waltz through vale and glen. Dusk drifts us into a nocturnal world where midnight flowers bloom. Woods bathed in phosphorescent moonlight; the melodies of owls.

I must leave you now. My scarlet ribbon carries me higher. Fields mist with rain. Sky glistens like steel. Fish labor upstream in a cascading river blue. In which tongue will you speak? In which land will you reside? My passion is for people. A journey into the sun.

That same scarlet ribbon seems to be taking my comments off to never never land. I have posted comments a couple of times and they have not shown up on your blog. Maybe it is a vast conspiracy.

Did you mean to post the "Scarlet Ribbon" on a blog or were you trying to contact the drug abuse hotline? Hopefully you weren't driving or operating heavy machinery while this was being composed. If there are random tests at your place of business I would suggest taking a few weeks off.

That being said, this poem is so far above me I would need a one hour lesson from the author to understand its meaning. Looking up such words as ermine and coruscating can be done outside the classroom, but figuring out the true meaning is a very difficult chore.

Wow. People can be very dull-witted when leaving such obtuse opinions. How brave of you Christopher to share your work and how weak are those who remain "Anonymous".

Hey Laura - thanks for the comment.

Actually, I do know the person - he's a friend who just happens to have an extreemly dry, sarcastic sense of humor! Really though, whatever I put on my blog is open to comment as people see fit. This particular piece I wrote for my English class last fall.

Laura, your comments hurt me deeply. Just because I am dull-witted doesn't mean I don't have feelings. You must have missed the portion of my post that said that I am trying to aspire to learn more about the meaning of the poem. Maybe some day I will be at your level of enlightenment, but until that time I will need to remain anonymous. Your bravery in putting your name on your post is commendable.
